The main attraction of Mallaig is the scenery. It is often described as breathtaking and there are plenty of places to explore where you can relax and take a breather.
The village has good bars with live music most week ends, variety restaurants and cafes, gift shops and we have tour groups who stay in Mallaig as a base so you can visit the Islands and the Peninsula’s either by boat or walking, a car is not needed but an advantage.
The hotel is convenient for both rail and sea terminals, with the Isle of Skye ferry only yards away, and daily cruises available in the summer on local boats. Other islands that can be reached by a ferry from Mallaig are Uist, Eigg, Muck, Rum and Canna. This little town has everything that you might need for a short holiday break with quite a few shops and restaurants.
At the end of the mainland road and the West Highland Railway Line lies Mallaig, just over an hour from Fort William.
A full range of accommodation, banks, supermarkets, swimming pool, post office and Tourist Information Centre makes this area a good place to stay for a while or discover new places to visit.
The ferries come and go to Armadale on Skye, Uist (proposed) and the Small Isles of Eigg, Muck, Rum and Canna.

Regular trips in these waters are operated during the summer by Bruce Watt whose boat takes the mail to Loch Nevis all year round, so relax for a day on the ocean wave and you may spot a whale or two.
In the busy bay you are likely to see many fishing boats and sometimes the local lifeboat.
To learn of the centuries of struggle to scrape a living from the land and the sea, and the local population’s arrival to found this thriving fishing port – visit the Mallaig Heritage Centre.
Fresh fish and the famous Mallaig kippers are available in local hotels, restaurants and in the fish shops. By the harbour, Fish Merchant Andy Race has a shop and also offers a mail order service selling a variety of freshly caught seafood.
If you enjoy golf, the nearby course at Traigh is a fantastic place for a round. The Scotsman newspaper has described it as “Probably the most beautifully sited nine-hole golf course in the world”, and we’re sure you’d agree with them.
Around half an hour’s drive along the Road to the Isles towards Fort William be sure to stop in Glenfinnan, and visit the famous viaduct (as seen in the Harry Potter films!) aswell as the monument to Bonnie Prince Charlie and the 1745 rising.
